Two San Diego Resident Artists

Mariza Sanchez

Dirke Johnson

Exhibit at the Mexican Institute of Cultura in Tijuana

Event organized and promoted by

The State Government of Baja California,

Instituto De Cultura de Baja California

The Californiae Foundation for International Global Arts

The opening's celebration of the Exhibition

"Ritmo Visual"

(Visual Rhythm)
will be on May 9, 2008 at 6 pm

at the Gallery of the Mexican Institute of Culture in Tijuana (BC),

10151 Av. Centenario (Zona Rio), Tijuana

Dirke Johnson Mariza Sanchez are displaying 20 recent paintings.

This is one ulterior cultural initiative organized by the Californiae Foundation for International Global Arts in cooperation with the Mexican Institutions to propose American Artists in Baja California, and vice versa, as a part of a Bi-National global project of "Art-Exchange" between San Diego (USA) and Tijuana (Mexico). This program was started 14 years ago by our executive director, Filippo M. Floridia D'Altavilla as a promoter and curator of international exhibitions, first for de Cultural Center of Tijuana (Bellos Artes) successively for Casa De La Cultura, and in the last 2 years for the Mexican Institute of Culture of Baja California.

Dirke Johnson ; "The understanding of Sensory input on the human body such as sight, smell, hearing, and the tactile all contain a rhythm, along with bio and circadian rhythms in their direct relation with our environment – the planet earth". To convey this visually is his primary expression for this exhibit, hence the title "Visual Rhythm". He works with a lot of texture, bold colors and sharp contrast in his painting due to the many spiritual and cultural influences in his life. He prefers the spontaneous abstract expression. His artistic expression is intrinsic reflection of his life experience. "One canvas could represent years of experiences or just a temporary emotional state at the time of its creation".

Mariza Sanchez says; "By exploring the music vein pictorially, I re-discovered my abstract roots. This process took me into a very intense expression of line and color – helping me to find the 'otherness'. It was in this magical spiritual space where I projected the images that I am proposing now". She prefers to be carried away by her intuition when she approach her subject, she lets her otherness find her on the course of the process; she believes that whatever was decided previously, intellectually, through the discipline of painting will flourish as she expected.

The Exhibition continues through June 6, 2008

Public and Media are invited to the opening. For more information and for interview pleases contact:

Dear Friends,

As you know since April 1st we are no longer at 320 South Cedros in Solana Beach . However, the Californiae Foundation for International Global Arts hasn't stopped working, and we are continuing to promote and organize all educational, artistic, cultural programs initiated a long time ago. As well, the concert series of classical music and opera continue. Last week we had the first concert at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Dieguito in Solana Beach and April 27th our ‘Solana Intimate Ensemble' will perform a new opera concert dedicated to Giacomo Puccini, which is supported in part by the City of Council of Solana Beach, at the same beautiful venue; 1036 Solana Drive in Solana Beach. In this occasion, we want to renew our thanks to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship to support us by providing a temporary concert hall where we can hold our concert program.

In the meantime, while we are looking for a new location – where we can organize all events scheduled in our “Calendar 2008-2009”, we already have a new office to continue to work and promote the Foundation's activities, and we kindly invite all of you to inform us if you hear of any potential gallery space available between 2000 and 3000 square feet in the Solana Beach area at an affordable price for the Foundation. The Foundation hopes to find it soon because we have a list of very special and unique programs to propose to our San Diego community, such as:

1) An anthological exhibition dedicated to the “MEC - ART” (60/70s) Gianni Bertini, – Mimmo Rotella – Alain Jacquet.

2) A show with a series of presentations conducted by Walter Maioli “Art Meets Music”, through performances, sonorous installations, lecture, films and prehistoric music concerts. Maioli is a well-known international flutist, composer, researcher of music archeology, and for 30 years has applied the results of his research on the origins of sound, music and musical instruments.

3) A Biennale of Arts (USA-Mexico). Bi-national project of exchanging artists of the 2 ‘ Californias ' in cooperation with the most significant cultural institutions and universities (from both sides of the border)

4) A series of exhibitions dedicated to Josef Walczak (Polish master painter), Angelo Buomori (Italian artist) and San Diego artists in a show “Zen Heart – Zen Art” featuring fine arts and crafts by local artists and will include performances, demonstrations, concerts, lectures, films and other presentations.

On May 9, 2008 at 8pm the Institute of Culture which is supported by the state government of Baja California in Tijuana opened an exhibition dedicated to Mariza Sanchez and Dirke Johnson “Ritmovisual” ("Visual Rhythm") . This is one ulterior initiative organized by Californiae Foundation for International Global Arts in cooperation with the Mexican Institutions to propose American artists ( san Diego residents) in Baja California . The exhibition, including a body of 20 recent paintings by both artists, will conclude on June 6, 2008. This event is part of a Bi-national cultural project of exchange between San Diego/Tijuana, USA/Mexico, started by Filippo M. Floridia 12 years ago as a Curator of International Exhibitions for the Cultural Center of Tijuana, Casa de la Cultura (IMAC) and in the last 2 years, for the Mexican Institute of Culture.

We want to express our gratitude to all the members of the Board of Directors, committees and Volunteers who are working without compensation for the Foundation as well as the City of Solana Beach for awarding the Californiae Foundation for International Global Arts a community grant.

We also want to deeply thank all of you to have given us your consideration and loyalty in the past years and for supporting us in this present time to continue to achieve our common goals. Any help in the form of donations and volunteering in this moment is very important to ensure the relocation and continuation of the Foundation.

C.F.f.I.G.A wants to invite, in this particular moment, one hundred of our “affectionates” that believe in our mission, to financially support for 1 year the Foundation with a minimum $50.00 monthly donation (100 % tax deductible) to enable the Foundation to be in the position to rent new facilities.

The Californiae Foundation for International Global Arts will return to this very special group of Patrons a series of facilitations and recognitions:

1) The Patron's name in a commemorative plate of the ‘Patrons of the Foundation' when we are in the new location

2) A 50% discount for every concert or class organized by C.F.f.I.G.A (valid for two) for as long as one continues to support this initiative.

3) A 20% discount for any purchase of artwork

4) A VIP invitation (preview) for any exhibition lecture or event or special presentation by C.F.f.I.G.A.

5) Invitation to the “Patron's Annual Dinner” of the Foundation (valid for two).

6) A free monthly subscription to the Californiae Foundation for International Global Arts newsletter.

To be a part of this initiative you can send mail to C.F.f.I.G.A at: PO Box 648 Solana Beach, CA. 92075; a letter of subscription with your first check; or email calfoundintart@sbcglobal.net your subscription request, indicating: your name, address, telephone and the amount you want to donate. Filippo M. Floridia D'Altavilla
