Miguel Ybanez
Born in 1946 in Madrid, Spain. He lives and works in Madrid, as well as Amsterdam, Paris and New York.
"…without arriving at determining the figurative aspect of its immediate representation, referred to its external form, this ambiguity is perhaps what helps Ybanez to break the images which are dispersed over a large smooth background which, at the same time, articulates the total structure until arriving at the limit of the painting. The objects, which are irretrievable, line up in attempt at order - which describes a certain daily symbolism where every day the anonymous habits are notes: all of which mixed with uncertainties of the craft.."
Ybanez opened his first exhibition in Paris in 1969. Since that time, he has been in public view in Galleries and Public Institutions throughout the world. He has had hundreds of "One Man Shows" in the most important Contemporary Art Museums of Europe, as well as South America. In 1981, Ybanez was selected by the Smithsonian Institute as the best Contemporary Artist to represent Spain. In San Diego, Ybanez, in cooperation with the San Diego Opera, held a special exhibition at the Athaeneum of La Jolla- showcasing the original sketches of the costumes and sceneographies he painted in 1984 for the Teatro Alla Scala of Milan's production of "Carmen". The same show was presented at the Cultural Center in Tijuana, Mexico, in cooperation with the Fine Arts Institute of Mexico City. |
