Autusto Barros
Born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1929. He lives and works in Paris.
Barros had his first "One Man Show" at the "Academie des Beaux Arts" of Lisbon in 1959. In the same year, he won the first award at the Goubelchian Foundation for the Arts, Lisbon. Since 1962, Barros has had hundreds of exhibitions all around the world in the most important Museums and Galleries, including: Hamburg, Paris, Porto, Milan, USA, and others. In 1963, Barros started a "live friendship" with other artists, such as: Man Ray, Magnelli, Sonia Delannay, M. Seuphor, and A. Joffery.
His works are struck by a kind of extremely tenuous description: grey, beige, white, yellow, canvas - delicately painted. "Metier" and "grain" provoke - in silence - a sort of secret hearing of the greatest whisper of the painting. The composition, often intersected or cut by oblique lines, set in the order of his inner scape according to a composition of structural and coherent finds. We can listen to Barros as a voice "of the inner space…" |
