Jean Messagier
Born in Paris in 1920, Messagier lives and works in Paris and Colombier Fontaine, France.
After 1948, Messagier freed himself from all cumbersome links with his post-cubist past and makes his expressiveness clear: the chromatic tune is set. During the 60's the artist reaches a totally gestural definition of the space, completely full of chromatic and dynamic movement. The gesture is the vehicle of vitality and propagator of light. Messagier has one language quite right for the fit of his effectivity and is able to contain the inner contradictions, the shock of two impulses, antinomic crux of one complete emotion. The emotional charge of one sign creates the significant transcendence, his trace follows only the instinct and refuses the sclerosis of the sign. This gestural morphology is intuitive, allusive.
Messagier opened his first "One Man Show" in 1943 in Montbelliard. Since that time, he has been in public view in Galleries and Museums throughout the world. He has had more than 150 personal exhibitions in the most prestigious institutions.
Messagier's works are included in many Museums: Rio De Janeiro, Paris, New York, Brussels, Geneva, Jerusalem, Nagaoka, Cincinatti, Mexico City, etc... |
