Mario Sironi
Born in Sassari, Italy in 1885. Died in Milan, Italy in 1961.
In 1912, Sironi became part of the Futurist group with Balla, Boccioni, Severini, and others.
Sironi distinguished himself by his interpretations, which were very different and singular from the other Futurists. His paintings were composed with solid, volumetric forms and strongly expressive colors. The "urban landscapes" are the most unmistakable and famous of his works. Following these, he had a personal interpretation of the metaphysical vision and the paintings are thick with colors. In 1922, in Milano, Sironi worked as an Art critic and illustrator for newspapers and magazines - soon becoming the most important exponent of "Novecento" and the official Culture of the Italian regime. After the Second World War, his paintings became engrossing and meditative. |
